Life certainly has its ups and downs, does not it? Unfortunately, it looks like sometimes the downs are more frequent and last longer than the ups. It’s rather easy to get into a funk and lose our groove through one of these downs, isn’t it? Sometimes the downs appear terrible when we’re right in the middle of them. However, we have to be patient and have faith because this is the stage where we are just about to break from our downward pattern and begin an upward growth spurt.

During some of my most terrible times, times that I didn’t believe I deserved by the way, I learned some incredibly powerful secrets. Unfortunately, at the time I didn’t know what success secrets I was studying. Sadly, this made these rough patches even rougher. During these demanding times I needed to have faith. Another thing that helped me get through those rough times was realizing that there were people counting on me to succeed. Taking me out of the equation and putting us into it is a powerful motivator that helps us get through rough times.

These powerful lessons learned from the hard times will rarely avail themselves to us in the time they are occurring. Unfortunately, these secrets of success take a lengthy time for us to really understand. That is why I call them secrets. And trust me when I say that there are still some secrets from my previous hard times that have not fully shown themselves to me yet. Well, at least not in a way yet that allows me to completely understand the lessons in the hardship I had to survive.

Now teens, go learn, lead, and put the way to a better world for all of us. Do not forget that it takes time; but do not worry as you’re going to get there, and you’ll get there in better shape than you think, while taking some fantastic life lessons. And once more, thanks in advance for all that you do, and everything you will do…

Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “You must do the thing that you think you can’t do.” Her husband, Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) that the 32nd President of the United States of America said, “Above all try something.” So, what do these quotes, or words of wisdom, from one of America’s most famous power couples have in common? It’s all about trying to be better. It is not about succeeding all the time, but trying to be better. With this striving comes a deep satisfaction that will make us happier, like someone smiling and beaming with pride after just finishing a marathon even though they are tired. This degree of fulfillment that striving brings us cannot be accomplished through our modern-day immediate satisfaction of remote control television or microwave popcorn. These pleasures cannot replace true work and accomplishment.

So go on and strive, however, beware, not every day will go perfectly. And if they do go wrong you might be tempted to retreat inward in an attempt to prevent this big bad world which has not been so kind to you recently. Don’t. It is a mistake. Retreating and surrendering will not bring you happiness. It is only going to push and pull you farther down the slippery slope of grief and melancholy. And the farther you slide down that slope, the longer it will take you to climb out of it.

We’ve had the key to our own happiness and success within us all along, haven’t we? The key is that which the First Couple alluded to in the start of this article, is not it? And if you do not succeed, you will at least feel better for trying… And who knows what might happen…
